Original watercolor attributed to Belgian artist Marie Louise Stradiot-Bougnet (1907–1953), known for her African travel works and mentioned in Lynn Thornton's Les Africanistes: Peintres voyageurs.

This striking study depicts a Mangbetu figure seated before a traditional dwelling. The composition captures the artist's interest in the people, cultures and daily life of Central Africa during the 1930s.

Although unsigned, the work is consistent in style, technique and subject matter with other Congo-related works from the artist's studio.
