Original watercolor by Belgian artist Marie Louise Stradiot-Bougnet (1907–1953), known for her African subjects and mentioned in Lynn Thornton’s Les Africanistes: Peintres voyageurs. More available, some signed and/or dated 1933.
The work shows a small round hut surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, painted with a light and spontaneous watercolor touch. A charming and atmospheric piece from around 1933, reflecting the tradition of Belgian travel artists working in Africa.
Signed lower right. Artist: Marie Louise Stradiot-Bougnet Date: ca. 1933 Medium: watercolor on paper Image size: 24.8 × 18 cm Paper size: 35 x 26 cm Condition: age-related wear to the sheet, visible margins and patina, as shown in the photos Sold as an original artwork, not a print.
The watercolor itself remains in good vintage condition. The surrounding paper margins show visible age-related wear, discoloration and small imperfections consistent with travel works from the 1930s. The artwork would benefit from professional framing, allowing the future owner to choose a presentation that suits their interior.
